Short Description
The aim of this Teaching Unit (TU) is to support the understanding of technological basics of network technology by experimenting with an experimental network. The Teaching Unit is a sequence of 5 Subunits which consist of a description of the Unit, Working Sheets and Programming Source Code.
In the first Sub-Unit, a serial computer connection between two PCs is realised. Here the basics of hard- and software for this connection type are taught. In the second Sub-Unit the pupils are taught to write and test their own programme for the test of this computer connection. The third Sub-Units aims at an extension of the simple protocol to a packet oriented protocol. In the fourth Sub-Unit the one-to-one PC-connection is extended toward a network of four PCs with a ring topology. The fifth Sub-Unit aims at an evaluation of the experiments with regard to data safety and security.

Time Table
Sub-Unit 1 = 3 Course Hours
Sub-Unit 2 = 5 Course Hours
Sub-Unit 3 = 4 Course Hours
Sub-Unit 4 = 4 Course Hours
Sub-Unit 5 = 4 Course Hours

Task-Group
The Teaching Unit has been developed for the vocational field Communication-Electronics. Pupils should have some pre-knowledge of basics of Digital Signal-Processing, Interface Technology and a programming language (PASCAL).
